Share your trip
Let friends follow your sail live, or publish the route when you return. Viewers can open your link without signing in.
Before you start
The mobile apps are currently in beta. Follow Get the mobile app to request an Android or iPhone invitation and install Veetr.
Use the Veetr mobile app and sign in with your Veetr account. Sharing requires a verified email and a boat you own, manage as a skipper, or belong to as crew. Select an existing boat or create one when starting your trip.
Your phone can record GPS positions without a Veetr Vane. When connected, Vane can also supply instrument readings. Only available, recorded readings appear in the shared trip.
Choose who can watch
| Option | Who can see the trip |
|---|---|
| Private | The recording stays on your device unless you choose to share it. |
| Anyone with the link | Anyone who receives the link can view it. It is not listed in Explore trips. |
| Public · listed on Veetr | Anyone can view it, and it appears in Explore trips. |
Private is the default. Link-only sharing is not restricted to named people: someone with the link can forward it.
Start a trip and share live
- Open Track in the mobile app and start a trip.
- Choose the boat and enter a trip title.
- Choose your sharing option, then start recording.
- Allow location access when prompted. Follow the app’s guidance for recording with the screen locked.
- Once sharing is ready, use the sharing page to send the trip link to your viewers.
Live sharing starts after the first GPS position is recorded and uploaded. It includes the route recorded so far, as well as new positions uploaded during the trip.
Already recording privately? Tap Share this trip live on the recording card. Choose link-only or public visibility and save.
Finish the recording
Tap Stop recording when you are done. A shared trip keeps its visibility and the same URL. After the final points sync, viewers see the finished trip rather than a live recording. A private trip stays private.
If your phone is offline, reconnect and open Veetr to let pending uploads finish.
Publish a trip afterwards
Open a saved trip under Your trips and choose Publish / manage sharing. Select the boat if needed, enter a title, choose link-only or public visibility, and publish.
The recorded route must upload before sharing is ready. Keep the local recording until syncing finishes.
Change or stop sharing
Open Manage / stop sharing for a live trip, or Publish / manage sharing for a saved trip. Change its visibility, or use Stop sharing to disable the link.
An offline privacy change remains pending until the server confirms it. Stopping sharing disables the old URL; sharing again creates a new link. Copies already saved by viewers cannot be recalled.
What viewers can explore
The shared page shows the route, recorded distance, and available instrument readings. Drag across the speed chart to move through the trip and see the corresponding boat position and readings. The boat name links to its profile.
Public trips appear in Explore trips, where visitors can filter active and past trips and sort by date. A live position may be delayed if the phone loses connectivity or GPS reception.
