Help turn open hardware into a real product

Finished Veetr hardware is not for sale yet. The current path is DIY, and the next path is community-funded certification.

Get Your Veetr

We want the first distributable batch to be compliant, documented, and sustainable.

Veetr is not currently sold as finished hardware. The project uses radio-enabled electronics and would need the right compliance work before finished units are placed on the EU or US market.

For the EU, that means preparing technical documentation and showing conformity with the applicable requirements before CE marking. For the US, finished electronic devices generally need the appropriate FCC equipment authorization route. The exact scope depends on the final product configuration, radio modules, enclosure, labeling, documentation, and production process.

That work costs money. Until Veetr can do it properly, the only supported way to get hardware is to build your own from the open source documentation.

The community plan is simple:

  1. Grow the newsletter and contributor base to 250 people who want Veetr to exist as a product.
  2. Publish a certification and first-batch budget with quotes from test labs and manufacturing partners.
  3. Run an open funding campaign with a provisional target of EUR 45,000.
  4. Use the funds for compliance testing, engineering fixes, production documentation, packaging, and first-batch preparation.
  5. Start the first certified batch only after the design passes the required checks.

EUR 45,000 is a planning number, not a promise. A realistic campaign budget should include pre-compliance testing, lab time, design iterations, final testing, labeling and manuals, legal/accounting overhead, fixtures, pilot manufacturing, and a reserve for failed tests. The number will be replaced with sourced quotes before any campaign starts.

This is a common path for open hardware: publish the design early, build a user community, validate demand, then use crowdfunding or community preorders to fund the expensive step from prototype to product. Veetr should follow that pattern carefully and keep the design open even if finished units become available later.

Campaign model

A practical path to the first product batch

1

Audience proof

Reach 250 newsletter subscribers and collect enough builder feedback to know which product configuration should be certified.

2

Quote the work

Get lab and manufacturing quotes for the final configuration, including EU and US requirements, packaging, labeling, manuals, and retest reserve.

3

Open fund campaign

Run a transparent campaign with the provisional EUR 45,000 target replaced by sourced quotes before launch.

4

Certify, then batch

Complete testing, fix issues, publish the lessons, and prepare the first batch only after the hardware passes.

Planning budget

What EUR 45,000 is meant to cover

This number is deliberately conservative for planning. It should become a public budget before the campaign starts.
